My Southern Garden

We've had regular amounts of rain this summer and as a result, the grass is very green and everything is blooming right on time. I wanted to do a quick post with lots of pics so I can look back and see which plants bloom best this (very hot) time of year.

I love dappled shade pics...

This plant below is a candlestick bush. I'll have to take more pics when all the yellow blooms open up.'re such a charmer...

These little flowers below are doing so well in our heat. They're called Portulaca and we've since added a few more to that spot.

And the Crepe Myrtles!!! They're all doing so well! I don't remember all of them blooming at the same time like this, ever!

So there you have it, a little southern garden in July. :) Hope y'all have a great day and thanks for stopping by!

  1. So beautiful.....I love the little bridge!
    Have a great week!!!

  2. Me too. I have always wanted a little bridge. Beautiful yard.

  3. Absolutely gorgeous! We are just starting our new gardens. You sure do inspire me!

  4. Lisa, Your flowers are beautiful. I love those crepe myrtles. My mums are blooming out already. I think the heat is speeding them along. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  5. Your yard is beautiful! I love it!

  6. Just gorgeous! Do you do your own edging? If so, please share your method. A nice crisp edge makes the gardens look so nice. Here in Central Indiana we have had so much rain that the weeds have been growing like, well, weeds, and it stays soggy for days, making it impossible to work in the gardens. It was a pleasure to visit your gardens. I left you a dozen organic eggs from our girls, cucumbers and zucchini...ha! I would if you were closer... xoxo

  7. It all looks so lovely - but I especially love crepe myrtles!! We recently removed an overgrown (and annoying) tree in our front yard - our very small front yard! - and replaced it with a crepe myrtle!! I don't know if it is going to bloom this year....but I am really looking forward to when it shows all its beauty!!

    1. Thanks, Jennifer! You'll love the crepe myrtle! I bet it will bloom this year. Mine have always bloomed from the get go. They're so hardy and definitely do well in extreme heat and even drought like conditions. On the other hand, they also do well with lots of water too. A great all around tree to have. And all the color choices! So many pretty colors to choose from. :)

  8. Thanks bridge is just darling...and you already know that I love your green, green grass!!

  9. Just beautiful, Lisa. I love all the little accent pieces you have. like the benches and statues. All of your plants and trees look so healthy. I'm wondering how long you've lived in this house. We've been here in the city for 31 years and I feel we are always adding more and more!

  10. I loooove your yard pics. They have given me so many ideas and we have made a good dent in transforming our yard. We had to cut our beautiful crepe got this awful ambrosia beetle and the extension agent said to cut and burn! It has regrown as a shrub so we will see how that goes. Your yard inspires me.

I love hearing from all of you! I try to respond to all comments and questions via email as quickly as possible. If you are a no-reply comment blogger (no email address) I will respond in the comments section, so be sure to check back for a response. :)
